Overview

The Inline Swirl Generator (ISG*) liquid/liquid (LL) and solid/liquid (SL) hydrocyclones utilize hydrocyclone technology to separate two liquids or a liquid and a solid of differing densities. The benefit of ISG* hydrocyclones is derived from the use of the ISG* hydrocyclone head which provides greatly enhanced separation efficiencies.

ISG* hydrocyclones can be used as separators in their own right, or upstream from another ACQUA separator, the Vertical Gravity Separator (VGS*).

Features and Benefits
A fraction of the weight, size and capital cost of equivalent conventional hydrocyclones.
No moving parts.
Continuous operation.
Can be mounted in any orientation.
Minimum supervision and maintenance.
Modular design for turndown or expansion flexibility.

How does the ISG* work?

Entering the hydrocyclone at high velocity through the ISG* head inlets, the liquid follows a spiral path near the vessel wall that forms a strong downward vortex. Large or heavy particles separate to the wall and are pushed down out of the cyclone. In the case of a ISG* LL hydrocyclone, this is the heavy water phase which can be discharged to the sewer. For a ISG* SL hydrocyclone, this is pushed out of the cyclone as a slurry or a paste.

The remaining liquid is pushed back through the ISG* hydrocyclone in an inner vortex and is either discharged to sewer or another ACQUA separator, such as the VGS*, depending on the quality of wastewater.
